Stripped ...

Theft of Pipes; It has been and still is an issue. The number of vacant/abandoned buildings located within our city blocks is obscene. Even with the valiant efforts of the NF Block Club and the inspections department, buildings continue to stain our neighborhoods and serve as gold mines for looters. Take a drive down Cudaback Ave, Willow Ave, and Highland Ave and you will quickly realize how severe of an issue this has become. This epidemic is widespread and seemingly continues to thrive on the ever-increasing stock of vacant/abandoned buildings. While criminals cash out, the city and its neighborhoods continue to be robbed of their pride. With this being said, the funds used to demolish buildings each year need to be increased. Programs like Buffalo ReUse can be developed in Niagara Falls to help negate the costs of demolition. A Niagara ReUse would reinforce the "Green" Initiative the city is following by salvaging materials from the deconstruction of these buildings. These used materials would be restored and sold to fund the other demolition and deconstruction efforts. In order to reverse the trend of these looters, the demolition/deconstruction rate must exceed the rate of abandonment in the city.

What are your thoughts?

  1. Agreed. We should be able set up a program where we can sell the used building materials (like a Buffalo Reuse) to help fund demolition. That in conjunction with holding property owners accountable. Either way we need a plan and a program set in place because this certainly wont fix it self.

  2. The ZOOM initiative to hold these property owners accountable is great but more needs to be done. Niagara ReUSE should be a part of the plan for sure. These buildings are eye sores for community members and only serve to reinforce the blighted image Niagara Falls currently exhibits.

  3. Hmmmmmm. Let me ask the same old silly question???? What about TENANT ACCOUNTABILITY.... When they move out in the middle of the night while they are fighting you on your tax payer based legal aid... and leave the place in shambles and all the filth behind with dog and cat shit all over, and even when you call the SPCA and tell them they have un-tagged animals (that you told them they couldn't have) spelled out in the lease, it makes me wonder how one sided this conversatioon really is....

  4. ... I would suggest performing a better background check on the tenant.
