Taking Back Our City!
Our city has been tarnished and tainted by the influx of crime that seemingly makes the evening news daily. As a community we must take pride in our reputation and work to change it so that our future generations do not have this cloud hovering over their heads. Take an active role in the community by joining your neighborhood block club, showing up at city council meetings, maintaining your home whether you own or rent, and keeping on eye out for other ways you can give back to your beloved city. Programs and organizations like Niagara Rises, Niagara Beautification, Wild Ones Niagara, and Big Brother Big Sisters are excellent tools to help make a difference in the community. Please visit their links in the sidebar of this page and find out more information for yourself!
Immediately, I see that this page was created to raise awareness of the issues in Niagara Falls, and immediately I consider that the issues which plague our city have been in action for years on end. In other words, the issues have been there all along so what is the need to raise awareness for something in which everyone living in the city is already aware of? There are many issues which have not been addressed, which will never be addressed but need to be addressed. After running a cadet program in this city for ten-years I know of some of those issues, the issues which are never addressed, the issues which most people are afraid to address, the issues which many fail to recognize. But nonetheless, inconsistent principles lead to inconsistent actions.

ReplyDelete54.3 percent of households with children under 18 years old are unwed. Of the 54.3 percent, 83.3 percent have females listed as the head of household...
In Niagara Falls, the number of males between 18-34 who haven't earned a high school diploma is 13.5 percent. The number of females between 18-34 who haven't earned a high school diploma is 11.4 percent...
These statistics were drawn from the 2007-2009 community survey estimate. It would be interesting to find out how many of the children 18 years and younger raised by a single parent earned a high school diploma or more.
However, I think even from these statistics you can draw the correlation between the number of graduates and the type of household they were raised in.
Broken families and uneducated youth is largely responsible for many of the crimes in Niagara Falls...How do we reverse this trend and begin to lift our city from the basement of Niagara County and the public eye?
